Location: C/ Dr Trueta, 196-98; C/ Taulat, 51-53 (Barcelona).

 

 

The project involves the conversion of the old Ideal Cinema into a large container which includes the BCN-Lab, a media-lab equipment for Barcelona. 

It is located in Poble Nou, a former industrial neighbourhood of Barcelona.
The BCN-Lab will be a space oriented for production, research and difussion of digital culture as well as a space shared by art, science, technology and society.
It will be an open creative experimental space where interdisciplinary projects of variable duration will be developed. It will also host special events (exhibitions, workshops, etc) linked to internal or external production in a multifunctional space.
BCN-Lab aims to be a space for dialogue that reflects the complexity of contemporary culture and society enhancing collaborative networking, local and global, hosting different and changing programs
which can be fed back between them.

 

The proposal suggests keeping the brick walls that create the side façades and the trusses that form the roof structure. Thus the existing building acts as a pergola over a glass box that is placed inside.

The project program is distributed in the glass box with platforms at different heights. The spaces are characterized by being diaphanous, it allows the program to combine different applications.
The cover is formed by slats that protect against solar radiation while allowing interior lighting.

Future users of the BCN-Lab:

Neighborhood residents, artists and other social actors, external institutions, companies and other organizations subject to rent spaces.
