Location: C/del Rec Comtal (Barcelona).

 

Housing project, placed in Ciutat Vella, a district that includes the entire historic center of the city. 

Due to the geometric complexity of the plot, the project is organised in relation to a grid of 4 x 4 meters, which crate full and empty spaces that provides the final shape of the project. The result is a structural skeleton of metallic pillars of 25 x 25cm.
Trying to keep the same harmony of this old district, the project consists of two volumes that emerge from the same base and close the incompleted square.

On the ground floor it is located a coworking, two commercial spaces and the access to the buildings. The walls are made of glass protected with wooden slats that emphasize the character of basement as well as establish a relation with the wooden slats from the blinds of the galleries of the upper floors. The pavement on the street follow the structure of the building.

The first floor contains a cohabitational housing. The circulation inisde organise all the housing units and common space, as well as it connects the two volumes.

One volume is made for 110m2 flats and the other for 45m2. Both are ruled by the same laws. Slats of wood and natural light coming from the courtyards give the character of the spaces in the flats. Space expands and dilates to create different environments. The entrance of the flats are spaces of lecture and dinning area, which avoid narrow corridors.

On the last floor, the number of flats is reduced by half to achieve the same level of the adjacent buildings. At the same time, it creates a space for common activities.

The facade keeps the rithm of the adjacent buildings, all of them characterised for balastrates and blinds in the narrow balconies. Following the same logic from the outside, the balconies turn into a big gallery on the inside. This gallery can be used as part of the living room according to the convenience of the user. 

The stairs hall of the 110m2 flat building creates a dynamic space where the stairs turn into benches and platforms that connect the different floors.
